Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Luz Foundation, recently created, had its official launch this Friday, focusing on promoting mental health awareness against behavioral addictions and substance abuse.
The Luz Foundation was registered with the Praia Registry Office on March 17, 2026, with the purpose of implementing programs, prevention actions, education, and community support for the promotion of mental health.
According to the president of the Luz Foundation, Artur Cardoso, the initiative aims to protect the “physical and psychological integrity of individuals and families.”
He stated that the foundation arose from his life experience, having gone through situations of behavioral dependencies, receiving support at the time, and also wants to help young people who are on this path and prevent others from following in their footsteps.
“We want to work firmly on all aspects that affect the individual and society, which we know integrates various factors. We will work on mental health, prevention, and awareness of the abusive and compulsive use of psychoactive substances,” added Artur Cardoso.
The same source also drew attention to the consumption of pornography, stating that this type of behavior has “destroyed young people and their mental health.”
It added that the Luz Foundation intends to set up a support center in the municipality of Calheta de São Miguel. A project that, according to the source, already has 60% of its funding and available land, offered by the local council.
Artur Cardoso stated that it will be complementary work to what is already being done by other associations, declaring, however, that “more still needs to be done.”
“We will work in the center with psychoanalysis, cognitive mental therapy and spirituality, and the use of other methods that will ultimately complement the treatment,” said the president of the foundation.
The public presentation of the project was also attended by members of the board of directors and constituent bodies of the Foundation.
