Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of UCID, João Santos Luís, presented today, in the city of Assomada, Adalgisa da Veiga Monteiro as the party’s candidate for the next local elections in the municipality of Santa Catarina and Lucas Barros for the Municipal Assembly.
According to the president of that party, the announced candidate “has great potential”, believing that she will best serve the municipality over the next four years.
As challenges, the candidate, as highlighted by João Santos Luís, has the mission of “promoting a paradigm shift in the socioeconomic development of the municipality, taking it out of the stagnation and stagnation in which it finds itself”.
“In addition to retail trade, construction, hotels and restaurants, which are emerging as new growth sectors, the municipality has enormous potential in the primary sector of dryland agriculture, livestock farming, poultry farming and fishing”, indicated this leader, considering that these areas “have not been properly explored by successive council teams”.
And in this sense, the president of the UCID considered that the candidate promises to develop and support these sectors with appropriate measures and policies during the 2024-2028 mandate, if she deserves the trust of all Santa Catarina residents.
“It also promises to implement a new vision of development in the youth sector, including professional training in various aspects, definition and implementation of a strong sports policy dynamic, also focusing on the recovery and construction of sports infrastructures”, he said.
The creation of support instruments for sports initiation schools in all modalities, athletics, promotion and support for the creation of tourist and cultural activities, positively impacting the lives of young people and people in this municipality”, are other bets of this application.
João Santos Luís recalled that the municipality has been led by a single political force for 16 years, which, according to him, explains the reasons for the stagnation in terms of development, adding that the “ineffectiveness in defining and implementing public measures has dictated the gradual loss of population”.
The UCID candidate also focuses on solving problems related to sanitation, housing, tourism qualification, support for community associations, recognition and dignified treatment of employees, support for hiace drivers and street vendors, among other aspects.
Adalgisa Monteiro is 29 years old, was born in the municipality of Santa Catarina, is an agricultural engineer and consultant for agricultural projects. She will be working with the lawyer Lucas Barros, also from Santa Catarina.
