Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Electoral Commission delivered facsimiles of the ballot papers to the candidates running in the local elections on 1 December today at its headquarters.
During the ceremony, the president of the CNE, Maria do Rosário Gonçalves, stressed the importance of this step to ensure transparency and trust in the electoral system.
“This act, provided for in articles 165 and 166 of the Electoral Code, is essential to reinforce equal opportunities between candidates. The delivery of facsimiles allows the competing lists to verify the authenticity and conformity of the ballot papers and use them as a tool to prepare voters, avoiding spoiled votes”, she explained.
She also assured that the facsimiles ensure transparency and minimise the possibility of counterfeiting ballot papers, reinforcing everyone’s trust in the electoral process.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the candidates and representatives of the Directorate-General for Support to the Electoral Process (DGAP).
The facsimiles were delivered to the candidates according to the electoral districts in which they are running, with the parties running in all 22 districts receiving a total of 44 facsimiles.
“We would like to thank the media for being present, as their role is fundamental in bringing this information to the electorate, ensuring that everyone understands that the facsimiles are not the official ballots to be used on election day. This communication helps to prevent misinformation,” he stressed.
The independent candidates and the political parties running in specific districts were the first to receive the facsimiles, followed by the PAICV and MpD political parties running in all electoral districts.
