The Civil Police (PJ) in São Vicente arrested nine men and seized drugs, a firearm, a vehicle, furniture and money, during an operation carried out on Thursday night, in the cities of Fonte Inês and Bela Vista. The information was released this Saturday by the police force.
According to the PJ, the operation, conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department of Mindelo, resulted in the arrest of seven individuals in the Fonte Inês area and two in Bela Vista, all suspected of committing the crimes of drug trafficking and receiving stolen goods.
The action was carried out in compliance with search, inspection and home seizure warrants issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The operation was presided over by magistrates and had the collaboration of the National Police.
“The detainees had been under investigation for some time by the police, as they were suspected of drug trafficking, having allegedly established drug sales points in the targeted areas,” the statement said.
During the operation, rocks and cocaine powder, a certain amount of marijuana, methamphetamine, cash, a STAR brand firearm, caliber 6.35 mm, nine. 22 and a vehicle.
“A set of sofas and a JBL speaker were also seized, presumably stolen goods, among other items with evidentiary relevance for the investigation,” the note adds.
The nine detainees, aged between 30 and 57, were presented to the competent judicial authorities this Saturday, May 10, for the first judicial interrogation.
The São Vicente District Court ordered the most severe coercive measure — preventive detention — for three of the detainees. Five were required to report periodically to the police authorities, as well as being banned from leaving the country. The last detainee, the youngest, was released without any coercive measures.
Defendants must await further procedural steps under these measures. The Civil Police guarantees that the investigation continues.
