Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies advocates for the creation of a company or department with buses dedicated exclusively to the tourism sector, considering that there is a promising market yet to be explored in Cape Verde.
Marvala Rodrigues spoke to Inforpress as part of the preparations for the new season of tourist ship calls, the first of which will take place this Wednesday, October 8th, with the arrival of the Mein Schiff at the Port of Praia.
“I think we should create a department, a company with buses dedicated exclusively to tourism, which Cape Verde doesn’t yet have. It has this market, so we need a company, a bus department dedicated to this sector,” she explained.
According to Rodrigues, the idea is to improve the response to cruise arrivals, but the country still lacks adequate resources to meet the growing demand that has been increasing year after year.
Marvala Rodrigues highlighted the “urgent need” to improve logistical organization and mobility during passenger disembarkation operations.
“We work with all agencies that offer transportation, but we rely heavily on public services, such as ‘hiaces,’ and we often lack adequate vehicles. We already noticed this problem last year, and it continues this year, also due to a lack of drivers,” she explained.
The manager said that the number of requests has increased significantly, in line with the annual growth in the flow of cruise ships visiting the country, which requires better internal preparation.
“We want to create the necessary conditions for more excursionists to leave the ships, because everyone benefits from this: restaurants, guides, agencies, and the entire city,” she said.
Marvela Rodrigues also emphasized the importance of collaborative work between institutions.
“Everyone needs to work together, because that’s the only way we can guarantee quality tourism without constraints,” she emphasized.
“Last year we had mobility difficulties in Planalto, so this year we notified City Hall, the Police, and all partners for better coordination,” she added.
In addition to logistical improvements, he assured that he has been working with the Santiago Guides Association, Enapor, and the Praia City Hall to improve the quality of services provided to visitors.
The manager emphasized that, with the arrival of more ships, it will be necessary to increase the number of guides and drivers available.
To welcome the first tourists this season, activities are planned for this Wednesday at Alexandre Albuquerque Square, including drumming and music by the municipal band.
