Africa-Press – Cape verde. In 2023, more boys than girls were born, the INE announced today. A total of 6,760 births were registered nationwide, 1,287 fewer than in 2022. In percentage terms, 51.2% were boys and 48.8% were girls.

Data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), regarding the 2023 Vital Statistics, indicated that for every 100 girls, 105 boys were registered in the period under analysis.

The infant mortality rate (deaths of children under 5 years of age per thousand live births) showed a slight improvement, rising from 15.4‰ in 2022 to 14.5‰ in 2023.

The infant mortality rate (deaths of children under 1 year of age per thousand live births) remained stable, reaching 13.8‰ in 2022 and 13.7‰ in 2023.
