Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the National Civil Protection and Fire Service (SNPCB) assured today that the weekend rains, recorded with moderate intensity in all municipalities of the country, have not caused any serious incidents so far.
Domingos Tavares emphasized that the rains that fell on all the islands were “gentle and calm”.
He reported that the SNPCB’s regional teams in all municipalities carried out monitoring work and ensured that the situation on the ground is under control.
He specified that there is only one case of minor damage to the road leading to the Pilão Cão area, in the municipality of Calheta de São Miguel, but that this road is now passable.
In this regard, he urged drivers to be extra careful and cautious on the roads, as well as to reduce their speed.
He also called the attention of drivers traveling through the Serra Malagueta region, including the municipalities of São Lourenço dos Órgãos and São Salvador do Mundo, urging them to exercise greater caution and care on these roads, especially in mountainous areas.
In the locations where rockslides and road blockages occurred during the November 13th rains in Santiago Norte, this Civil Protection official assured that cleanup operations and the restoration of normal traffic flow have already been carried out in all municipalities.
The population was urged to remain aware of the risks involved during this rainy season, and was recommended to keep waterways clear and always follow the guidelines of the National Civil Protection Service (SNCPB).
