Africa-Press – Cape verde. Handcrafted embroidery, Christmas decorations, and handicrafts make up the Christmas fair that the Senior University of Cape Verde (Uni-Sénior) is promoting in Praia, to showcase the work that senior women have been developing.
The initiative, now in its third edition, is part of the institution’s recreational program and takes place at its facilities in Achada Santo António, and is open to the public until December 22nd.
In an interview with the media, the project coordinator, Nelita Lopes, emphasized that the fair aims to “recognize and showcase the work that senior and non-senior women are developing” within the scope of Uni-Sénior.
The event presents a diverse range of products related to the holiday, which attest to the “mastery” of the artisans in the making of handcrafted pieces.
Among the items on display are handcrafted embroidery, Christmas decorations, paintings, jewelry, and “various manufactured products, made with local fabrics,” added Nelita Lopes.
The fair is also a meeting point and source of motivation for the participants. Gorete de Pina, one of the exhibitors, expressed satisfaction with the opportunity.
“It’s a commendable initiative, and it’s very rewarding to be able to exhibit our work. These activities motivate us to continue learning and creating,” she said.
Rosa Conceição, who brought nativity scenes and other decorations to the fair, highlighted the social value of the event.
“More than just selling, this moment serves as a time for us to be together, celebrate Christmas, and share experiences,” emphasized the artisan, highlighting the spirit of unity experienced.
