Project MOVER Supports Regular Entry of 320 Migrants

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) launched the “MOVER” project in Lisbon on Monday to support the regular entry of 320 immigrants from Angola and Cape Verde into Portugal, addressing the country’s labor shortage.

According to Inforpress, the MOVER Project – Migration, Opportunities and Job Enhancement in Portugal – is being developed in partnership with the Portuguese Business Association (AEP), the Portuguese Confederation of Commerce and Services (CCP), and the Portuguese Hotel Association (AHP).

The initiative aims to contribute to the development of safe, regular, and orderly labor mobility pathways between Angola, Cape Verde, and Portugal, promoting ethical recruitment, the protection of migrant workers, and responsible integration into Portuguese society.

Responding to labor shortages in key sectors of the national economy and high youth unemployment in partner countries, MOVER seeks to strengthen economic development, demographic sustainability, and institutional cooperation among the three countries.

During the project’s duration, between October 2025 and December 2027, it is expected that 320 migrants will receive legal entry into Portugal and 400 will be informed about employment opportunities.

According to the same source, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Cape Verdean Embassy in Portugal, Ana Pires, recalled that Portugal is the main destination for Cape Verdean immigration.

“This reality has deep linguistic, cultural, human and institutional ties, which make mobility between our countries a structuring element of the bilateral relationship,” said the Cape Verdean diplomat.
