Africa-Press – Cape verde. The “Safe Taxi” project, presented today in Praia, foresees an investment of approximately 72 million escudos to reinforce the safety of taxi drivers and passengers and modernize the taxi sector in Cape Verde.
According to the official, this amount corresponds to the two phases of the project’s implementation, the initial costs of which will be covered by the Government, including the acquisition and installation of equipment in the vehicles, as well as training and operation of the system.
According to Paulo Rocha, the system integrates various technological solutions designed to increase safety and improve the functioning of the taxi service in the country.
Among the main functionalities are the “connection of vehicles to the National Police Command Center,” geolocation systems, digital management of transport requests, electronic payment, and the installation of digital cameras in the vehicles.
The project also includes a “panic button” that can be activated by the taxi driver or passenger in case of danger, allowing direct communication with the National Police for a rapid response.
The system will be implemented gradually, starting in Praia, then moving to the islands of São Vicente and Sal, before being extended to other locations in the country where taxis operate.
The CEO of Smart Solutions, Igor Fonseca, explained that the application will allow users to request a taxi via their cell phone, track the trip in real time, and make payments electronically.
The application will also allow users to confirm the vehicle’s license plate and the taxi driver’s identity, as well as rate the service at the end of the trip.
In turn, taxi owner José Carlos Fernandes considered that the project could bring benefits to owners, taxi drivers, and passengers, contributing “to improving the safety and quality of the service provided.”
The system will be open to all vehicles that meet the defined technical specifications, with the participation of owners considered essential for the project’s success.
