Africa-Press – Cape verde. The equipment for expanding the photovoltaic plant and installing the desalination unit at Monte Trigo has already arrived in this fishing village, nestled in the interior of the municipality of Porto Novo, Santo Antão.
This fact was confirmed by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Energy, which reported that the equipment was transported by helicopter, since the conditions for landing by sea in this fishing area would not allow such an operation.
Monte Trigo became known as the first village in Cape Verde to be 100% electrified with renewable energy, in 2012.
With the growth in demand, the installed capacity of the plant, at 40 kWp, fell far short of the needs of the 75 families, and this solar energy production unit is being reinforced with new panels, which will increase its capacity to 100 kWp.
The integrated Monte Trigo project also includes the installation of a seawater desalination unit to solve the problem of water quality in this village.
The helicopter is in service for the company Águas da Ponta Preta, which is executing this project, which also includes sanitation improvements.
The population of the village of Monte Trigo is eager for the resumption of 24-hour electricity supply with the completion of this project, said the community leader, Rosa Miranda.
The project will increase the capacity of the power plant from 40 kWp to 100 kWp, thus solving the problems that the 75 families have faced in terms of electricity.
