Africa-Press – Cape verde. A group of women from various security forces marched through the streets of Planalto today to mark Cape Verdean Women’s Day, showcasing female representation.

More than 250 women paraded, including members of the Armed Forces, National Police, Municipal Police, Prison Guards, and market vendors, to celebrate Cape Verdean Women’s Day.

In an interview with the press, National Police Sub-Lieutenant Zelinda Gonçalves stated, according to Inforpress, that it was a way to congratulate women nationwide.

“It is also a special date because the month of March also marks an important moment when the first women were allowed to join the national police, and this happened in 1989,” she added.

She stated that there are still challenges, namely, creating more spaces for women and increasing female representation in various sectors.

Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva was present at the march, where he highlighted the importance of women and the role they play in society.

“This parade demonstrates that things that were difficult years ago are now a reality; women in the security forces, in various areas, this represents a positive evolution of the times,” said Ulisses Correia e Silva, according to this newspaper’s source, who congratulated the women on the date.
