Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Santiago Teachers’ Union (Siprofis) issued a warning today regarding the need for continuous investment in the professional appreciation of teachers and in education funding, advocating for the full implementation of the PCFR for preschool monitors.

These remarks were made by Siprofis President Abraão Borges in a press statement sent to Inforpress, released as part of the celebrations for Cape Verdean Teachers’ Day. The occasion is being observed today under the theme: “Upholding the Law, Valuing Teachers, Securing the Future.”

The union leader paid tribute to the teaching profession, acknowledging the “irreplaceable role” that educators play in shaping future generations and fostering national development.

According to Abraão Borges, even as the world undergoes constant technological transformation, the teacher remains the “central figure” in human guidance and in the context of digital governance.

“No innovation can replace the role of the teacher,” the union leader asserted, emphasizing that it is the educator’s responsibility to guide the intelligent use of new tools in order to cultivate citizens who are critical thinkers and prepared to face the challenges of the future.

To underscore the centrality of the profession, the Siprofis president cited sociologist Henrique Varela, noting that “behind every profession, there is always a teacher who taught and helped to shape it.”

Celebrations for Cape Verdean Teachers’ Day are taking place across the entire country, featuring various initiatives organized by regional delegations of the Ministry of Education and by schools, with the support and oversight of the teachers’ unions.
