Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Independent Health Regulatory Authority (ERIS) informs that the use of the substance butylphenyl methylpropional in cosmetic products is prohibited because they have been classified as mutagenic or toxic carcinogenic substances for reproduction (CMR).
According to an ERIS information note to which Inforpress had access, this instruction follows recent amendments to Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 of 30 November, which serves as a reference to national legislation, including Annex II.
This has consequently prohibited the use in cosmetic products of substance 2-(4-tert-butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde (butylphenyl methylpropional), item No 1666 of the Annex, among others, because they have been classified as mutagenic or reproductive-toxic carcinogens (MRCs), is read in the document.
ERIS therefore warns that the use of the substance butylphenyl methylpropional is prohibited in cosmetic products. The same source also points out that this measure has been in force since March 1, 2022, the date from which cosmetic products containing the substance butylphenyl methylpropional are no longer permitted to be marketed or made available to the consumer.
