Air Safety Agency Confirms Strike Did Not Disrupt Operations

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Airports and Air Safety Company (ASA) reported this Thursday, the 19th, that during the strike period, there were no delays or flight cancellations, a result of the implementation of contingency plans that ensured the continuity of operations in the Sal Oceanic FIR.

“ASA informs that, during the strike period, there were no delays or flight cancellations, a result of the implementation of contingency plans, which ensured the continuity of operations in the Sal Oceanic FIR, with strict compliance with the safety requirements demanded in the provision of air navigation services,” it reads.

It should be noted that the technicians and management support staff of ASA began a three-day strike on Monday, the 16th, after the failure of negotiations with the administration, as announced by the union.

The workers presented three main demands: the reclassification of the professional categories involved, the allocation of the technical skills allowance to Aeronautical Telecommunications professionals, and the allocation of the qualification allowance to Aeronautical Information and Communication Technicians (TICA).

However, the company refuted this, stating that the procedure for hiring a specialized consultancy to reassess the company’s professional classification system is currently underway, and that the process is expected to be completed this year.

In the context of negotiations with the workers, ASA claims to have presented alternative proposals for immediate implementation which, although not including professional reclassification, represent salary improvements.
