Africa-Press – Cape verde. The rains that have been falling since yesterday, Wednesday, August 31, practically throughout the interior of the municipality of Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, left farmers excited, but also caused some damage, cutting some access roads.
As Inforpress advances, since last night there have been light rains practically all over the interior of the municipality of Porto Novo to the delight of the farmers, although the fall of precipitation has also interrupted some roads, due to the fall of stones, as is the case of the national roads that connect Ribeira das Patas to Ribeira da Cruz and Selada to Alto Mira.
According to the same source, the Ribeira das Patas – Ribeira da Cruz road is interrupted because of falling rocks, and the same is true for the access road to Alto Mira, according to driver Amadeu Ramos.
The carousable access road to the North Plateau, where it has been raining uninterruptedly for the last few hours, is also impassable, according to driver Otelindo Ferreira,
breath for the springs
Farmers, however, say they are excited about the rain that has fallen, at a time when many springs were bankrupt due to drought in recent years.
“In Ribeira das Patas, it rained throughout the early hours of this Thursday. The water is flowing through the streams, which is a good sign”, confirmed a farmer in this valley, one of the most affected by the drought in recent years in the municipality of Porto Novo.
It should be noted that the protection services have not yet registered any request for assistance from the population, according to the representative of the volunteer firefighters, Clemente Lopes.
