In June of this year, there were a total of 599,525 mobile phone cards active in the mobile market in Cape Verde, which represents an increase of 5.5% compared to the first quarter of 2022. The report on Statistical Indicators of the Electronic Communications Market in Cabo Verde for the 2nd Quarter of 2022, whose information was collected from existing operators in the country, provides data on the penetration rate of mobile and fixed telephony services, of the internet service and pay-TV, the evolution of voice, SMS and internet traffic and market share, from the point of view of retail markets.

Fixed Telephone Service

As regards fixed telephones, at the end of June this service had 55,862 subscribers, corresponding to a

penetration rate of 10 accesses per 100 inhabitants. According to the report in question, this represents an increase of 3% compared to the first quarter of 2022. Compared to the second quarter of 2021, there is an increase of 4%.

If we look at the market share of landline subscribers, at the end of the 2nd quarter of this year, the data show that CVMultimédia holds 51.9%, CVTelecom 47.9% and Unitel T+ 0.2%.

With regard to voice traffic, in the 2nd quarter of 2022 around 4.9 million minutes were generated on the fixed network, corresponding to a decrease of 27% compared to the first quarter of 2022.

When compared to the same period last year, the report notes that there was a 24% decrease in total voice traffic, due to a decrease of 26% and 31% in incoming national voice and international traffic. , respectively.

Services in Mobile Networks

Regarding the Mobile Networks service, the total number of mobile phone cards active in the mobile market in Cape Verde, in June 2022, was 599,525, which represents an increase of 5.5% compared to the first quarter of 2022.

But, when compared to the same period of 2021, there is an increase of 6%, so the penetration rate in this period was 105 percent.

In this respect, CVMovel dominates the market share with 69% of the total number of active SIM cards in the mobile market in Cape Verde.

The report also shows that the number of SIM cards dedicated exclusively to mobile internet connections in the period under review was 30,185, which represents 5% of the total number of cards for mobile phones.

Thus, according to the data in the report in question, there is a decrease of 6% in relation to the previous quarter and of 15% in relation to the same period of last year.

Internet Access Service

With regard to the internet service, in the second quarter of 2022, the total number of subscriptions to the internet access service was 466,279, of which 87% relate to Small Screen Mobile Broadband. “This number is due to the diversity of types of plans offered by the same”, clarifies the document.

The report also shows that the number of Internet Access Service subscriptions increased by about 5.5% in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the first quarter of 2022.

However, when compared to the same period last year, there is an increase of 8%.

CVMobile dominates

Thus, the penetration rate of the Internet Access Service was around 82 accesses per 100 inhabitants, at the end of the second quarter of 2022, which represents a variation of 4.28 percentage points (pp) and 5, 28 pp compared to the first quarter of 2022 and the second quarter of 2021, respectively.
