165 years of Cidade da Praia: PR calls for everyone’s work for a “safer, fairer and more inclusive” Beach

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, today, 29, congratulated the City of Praia for the 165 years of elevation to this category, under the sign of growth and great challenges. In a message addressed today to the Mayor of Praia, Francisco Carvalho, the Head of State emphasizes that the country’s capital has become, over the years, increasingly cosmopolitan, creative and innovative, thus being “a City that unites all Cape Verdeans”. However, it calls for everyone’s commitment to a “safer, fairer and more inclusive” Beach.

In a statement sent to the press, however, José Maria Neves is aware of the major challenges facing the City, namely in the fields of planning, housing, urban regeneration, environmental sanitation and public safety and order.

“To be more competitive and sustain a stronger dynamic of inclusive growth, with opportunities shared by all, the City will have to attract more public and private investments, generate more jobs and fight poverty and inequalities”, highlights the Highest Magistrate of the Nação, certain that the City has a vibrant civil society, a growing business fabric and an evident social and cultural dynamic.

José Maria Neves salutes the City and all Praia residents, from various backgrounds, hoping that the coming years will be a lot of work “in favor of an increasingly modern, more prosperous, safer, fairer and more inclusive Beach”.

Potentialities

He also highlights renewable energies, the blue economy and information technologies as areas with great potential in the city .

The President of the Republic calls, however, for everyone’s engagement in the city’s development process.

“Accelerating the pace of socio-economic transformation in the City and taking advantage of all its potential must be based on institutional stability and on frank and open dialogue between the Government and the City Council and between the Municipality and civil society, in order to solid public and public-private partnerships that serve the interests of Praia and Cape Verde”.

José Maria Neves also exhorts that it is necessary to “continue to work to improve the business environment and encourage investments that contribute to the City growing more, based on competitiveness factors”.
