2024 elections may have electronic voting

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The director general of Support to the Electoral Process, Arlinda Chantre, admitted today the introduction of electronic voting in the municipal elections of 2024. This possibility will depend, however, on a computer prototype to be developed by the University of Cape Verde (Uni-CV). Internet voting is ruled out, for now.

“At the moment, the Directorate General for Support to the Electoral Process [DGAPE] and Uni-CV are working towards the elaboration of a protocol, whose objective involves a prototype to be applied from the municipal elections [of 2024], if not we have financial constraints”, said Arlinda Chantre, who is ruling out, for the moment, the possibility of voting via internet.

The person in charge of DGAPE made these revelations in an interview with Rádio de Cabo Verde (RCV), during the program Discurso Directo, quoted by Inforpress. Online voting not yet

Regarding Internet voting, he recalled that Cape Verde still faces some problems with the so-called “ballot box”, in which people are positioned near polling stations to give indications on how voters should vote. According to her, Internet voting could provide the exit system at people’s homes.
