The RIU group, one of the largest hotel chains in Cape Verde, is supporting the NGO África Avanza in the project of free medical care that is taken to the population of Sal and Boa Vista. During their trips to the two islands, the doctors of this Spanish NGO are accommodated free of charge in the group’s hotels. In terms of treatments, Spanish doctors already have hundreds of consultations and training.

According to a press release, after the missions in June and July, four more missions are planned for this NGO during 2022, in the months of September, October, November and December.

The partnership has been going on since 2014, and after the pandemic it is being resumed. In practice, this hotel chain offers accommodation to doctors who come from Spain to carry out training, consultations and free surgeries for the population of the islands of Sal and Boa Vista.

Regarding training, 42 people from the health area and beyond were covered with six training sessions in basic life support and automatic and manual defibrillation.

At mission number 43, also in Sal, training was given in “initiation of clinical ultrasound” to 29 local health professionals and 17 medical consultations and 15 ultrasounds were carried out in consultation.
