Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verdean coach Óscar Monteiro, who died in May, was honored this Saturday by the Association of African Students in Bragança, with the promotion of the first edition of the Óscar Monteiro Cup.
The tribute to the student coach, at the Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (IPB), was invited by Grupo Desportivo Mirandês, which won the trophy by beating the home team 6-0.
According to information collected by Inforpress, families and friends were present at the event, as well as the president of the IPB, Orlando Rodrigues, and the deputy in the Portuguese Parliament and former president of the IPB, Sobrinho Teixeira.
Óscar Monteiro died at the age of 38, in Bragança, on the 8th of May, following a road accident with a motorcycle.
He lived for several years in Bragança, where he went to study at the IPB, he was coach of the African Students team in Bragança, which is dedicated to the practice of football in that city.
Óscar Monteiro, who was also president of the Association of African Students, was buried a week after his death, in his hometown of Santa Cruz, in the interior of the island of Santiago.
