Cabo Verdean Academy of Letters launches “Literary Prize” worth one million escudos

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cabo Verdean Academy of Letters (ACL) launched on Tuesday, at its meeting on the Plateau the “Literary Prize”, an exclusive contest for Cabo Verdean writers and has as an award a prize of one million escudos, fully funded by BAI-CV.

As announced this afternoon, the “Literary Prize” is open to all Cabo Verdean writers, regardless of their location, who will be able to compete with their unpublished works from June, and the distinction will not be awarded until November 2023, a form found by the ACL to avoid pressure from the writers to the contest.

Accurate writing capable of projecting Cabo Verde and or the writer to the world are some of the requirement for this award that the ACL aims to honor “good Cabo Verdean writing, those who dedicate themselves to writing, with maturity” in a country with two Camões Awards, won by Armenio Vieira and Germano Almeida.

This partnership between the two parties resulted into a cooperation agreement initialled at the public presentation ceremony of the prize, in addition to this financial institution committing itself, during this two-year cycle, to assist the ACL in the publications of its literary works.
