Cape Verde and Brazil hold IV Political Consultation meeting

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verde and Brazil will meet, tomorrow, the 12th, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration, in Achada de Santo António, for the IV Meeting of Political Consultations.

According to a statement from the Government, this bilateral meeting, aimed at sharing information and evaluating cooperation actions, will be chaired by the Secretary for Africa and the Middle East of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Carlos Duarte, and the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Cape Verde, Miryan Vieira.

Agenda items include a comprehensive analysis of the political and socio-economic situation in both countries, as well as a discussion on regional and international issues of common interest.

Furthermore, according to the same source, an assessment of bilateral relations will be made, with an emphasis on traditional areas of cooperation between the two countries. There will also be a presentation of the status of the future Integrated Development Program (PDI), currently in the structuring phase, which aims to improve the efficiency and coordination of cooperation between Cape Verde and Brazil.

Another topic on the agenda will be the analysis of the international geopolitical situation and its implications for the development of both countries.

During the meeting, it is planned to sign a memorandum of understanding between the Cape Verde Diplomatic Institute and the Rio Branco Institute of Brazil.

It should be noted that the Bilateral Consultation, Political and Cooperation Mechanism was signed in 2009, and constitutes the institutional framework for increasing bilateral dialogue between Cape Verde and Brazil, to give shape to a strategic partnership desired by both countries.

Last Consultation, the III Meeting of the Political Consultation and Cooperation Mechanism, between the two countries, took place in the City of Praia, on September 1, 2015. The first was held in July 2009 and the second in 2012.
