Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the MpD defended, this Friday, that the party needs to win the 2024 and 2026 elections because Cape Verde “needs” that political force in power, as it is a party with a vision of the future and the ability to manage very difficult times. The XIII National Convention of the party is taking place in Cidade da Praia.

Ulisses Correia e Silva expressed this conviction to all national and local leaders, to the militants and sympathizers of the Movement for Democracy (MpD-poder), during the official opening of the XIII National Convention of the party that supports the government.

The leader of the MpD urged, on the other hand, that everyone work so that the party he leads supports a candidate for the 2026 presidential elections.

“We are ready, we will come out stronger. The MpD comes out of this convention stronger, with reinforcement and articulation, as a system at national, regional and local level. We came out stronger because of the composition”, he highlighted.

For the materialization of this challenge, he also pointed out the rescue with the democratic action nuclei, the same organization as always in the neighborhoods and localities, the reinforcement of the diaspora and in the national bodies, among other national and international structures such as the pan-African parliament. .

“We arrived at this convention with the strongest MpD, we will leave this convention with an even stronger MpD. This is the moment to reaffirm the pride of our party. Its history and its contribution to the development of Cape Verde. We are a profoundly Cape Verdean party. A party that resulted from a great movement and that led this movement in 1991 and 1992”, he reinforced.

Still in his speech, the president of the MpD highlighted that Cape Verde has made progress in the most diverse sectors, including international rankings such as Freedom of the Press, Democracy, Good Governance, Transparency, Corruption, Equality and Equity Gender and Youth Entrepreneurship.

In this line, he said that, contrary to the opposition, which “is looking for problems and difficulties to amplify them”, the MpD focuses on solutions for crisis management, for the future of Cape Verde, with more jobs for young people, less absolute poverty, no extreme poverty and more resilience”.
