Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verde is preparing to participate in the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) in 2026, which will allow comparisons of educational quality with that of more developed countries, with funding from the World Bank, the government announced today.
“We are preparing for Cape Verde’s participation in PISA, with specialized technical assistance and funding from the World Bank, an initiative that aims to assess the quality of education compared to the most developed OECD [Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development] countries,” said the Minister of Education, Amadeu Cruz, in Praia.
The minister explained that the country is mobilizing international technical assistance and financial support from the World Bank.
“We have begun the process of contracting technical assistance, possibly through agreements with partner institutions that have already worked with us in Cape Verde and have experience with our education system. We hope to meet all the requirements for an experimental exercise, in order to obtain results that allow us to compare our system with the most advanced and established ones,” he stated.
Amadeu Cruz said he hopes the consultation process “will be completed soon, so that the technical process of implementing the PISA assessment can begin in January 2026.”
PISA, sponsored by the OECD, is administered every three years and assesses the performance of 15-year-old students in reading, mathematics, and science.
Amadeu Cruz added that this year, the national school barometer will be launched, based on national tests and internal student assessments, to measure the performance of various municipalities and schools and adopt corrective measures, if necessary.
While recognizing the importance of external assessments, the minister considered that the quality of education in Cape Verde has seen notable improvements.
