Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verde Women’s National Football Team won, for the first time, a place in the FIFA ranking. The announcement was made by the Cape Verdean Football Federation (FCF) on the institution’s website, on this Cape Verdean Women’s Day, March 27.
“This is good news for Cape Verdean women’s football, for all women in Cape Verdean football, and on this Cape Verdean Women’s Day, congratulations to all Cape Verdean women, especially those who were part of this history”, wrote the FCF, on its official website.
As they reveal, this achievement was due, above all, to the fact that FIFA recognized the UFOA A Tournament, held last January, on the island of Sal, as an official tournament. The “good results” obtained during the tournament, according to the FCF, contributed to making this achievement possible.
20th Position in Africa
In the FIFA ranking, the Cape Verde women’s football team ranks 20th in Africa and 133rd in the world, with 1088.27 points.
“Such classification places our Selection, the first at the level of the PALOP, and fourth at the level of our UFOA A zone”, explains the institution
Silvéria Nédio, national coach, highlights that this recognition is a “victory” for Cape Verde, “for all Cape Verdean women” and, also, a victory for the Cape Verdean Football Federation for “believing and betting” on the development of the women’s soccer
It should be recalled that the FIFA Women’s World Ranking ranks the 188 national women’s football teams associated with the International Football Federation. The ranking has been used since July 2003.
