
Africa-Press – Cape verde. From this Sunday, 13th, the Capuchin Brothers of Cape Verde will carry out a set of activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the first Italian Capuchin missionary priests in Cape Verde. The program runs until mid-October.
On the first day of the celebration, March 13, the Capuchin Brothers of Cape Verde intend to open the Jubilee Year on the island of Fogo with the celebration of the Eucharist in the multipurpose room of São Lourenço. The start of the celebrations will be presided over by Friar Matias Silva, custodian of the Order in Cape Verde.
Also on the agenda is a photographic exhibition and a staging that recalls the marks left by the Capuchin missionaries on the island, followed by a fellowship lunch and a series of activities such as conferences and testimonies of people who lived with the first Capuchins.
The island of Fogo will receive, at the time of the feast of São Francisco de Assis, 4 October, the celebration of the closing of the Jubilee year, at the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora do Socorro, which will be attended by all the Capuchin friars residing in Cape Verde. .
The first Italian Capuchin missionary priests arrived on the island of Fogo on July 23, 1947 and are now present on the islands of Santo Antão, São Vicente, São Nicolau, Santiago, Fogo and Brava.
