Celebration of National Defense Week Starts Today in the Three Military Regions and Brava Island

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Secondary school students from São Vicente, Santiago and Sal are taking part today in the “Soldier/Sailor for a Day” programme in the three military regions of the archipelago and Brava Island, in an initiative that is part of the celebrations of National Defence Week.

According to the press office of the Ministry of National Defence, the day is celebrated on Wednesday, the 6th, and the planned activities aim to “reinforce civic awareness” of everyone for the mission of guaranteeing national defence.

The “Soldier/Sailor for a Day” initiative will run until 4pm this Monday with visits by students to the Coast Guard vessels in São Vicente, to Cosmar in Praia, to the detachment in Palmeira on Sal Island, and to the Coast Guard naval base in the Port of Furna on Brava Island.

On Wednesday, the 6th, the main event of National Defence Day will take place on the island of Sal, with a conference on the importance of military aeronautics for defence, with an opening session by the Minister of National Defence, Janine Lélis, starting at 10:00, at the Hilton Hotel.

On Wednesday afternoon, the traditional military parade is expected to celebrate the day, simultaneously on Avenida Marginal, in São Vicente, on Rua da Polícia, in Santa Maria, on the island of Sal, and on Avenida Cidade de Lisboa, in the city of Praia.

The programme also includes a series of lectures on the day, which will be held from Thursday 7th in secondary schools on the islands of São Vicente, Santiago, Sal and Brava, in addition to awareness-raising activities for the population on the fight against dengue fever on the four islands on Friday 8th.

The activities of National Defence Week will culminate on Saturday 9th, with health fairs in Ribeira Bote (São Vicente), in São Paulo, Santa Maria (Sal Island) and in Praia-Baixo, São Domingos (Santiago).
