Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Institute of Cultural Heritage (IPC) and the City Council of Ribeira Grande de Santiago, today signed a memorandum for the creation of the Joint Technical Office of Cidade Velha, a World Heritage Site.
As explained in a press release, the document aims to create the essential conditions for the normal functioning of the Joint Technical Office of Cidade Velha, a World Heritage Site, establishing the technical and administrative procedures, with a view to issuing opinions and approving all urban operations. at the Historic Site of Cidade Velha, classified as a World Heritage Site.
This Technical Office will thus be a technical and administrative body, of a multidisciplinary and inter-institutional nature which, according to them, aims to advise the Institute of Cultural Heritage (IPC) and the City Council of Ribeira Grande de Santiago (CMRGS) in the management of the World Heritage Site and in decision-making in the management of the Historic Site of Cidade Velha.
Functions
Among the functions of this office is the approval of any and all intervention with a view to the rehabilitation, defense and promotion of the
built historical heritage, archaeological protection, requalification of public space, infrastructure and collective equipment, recovery of housing in the historic center, recovery and construction of accessibility, sanitation and facades, cultural routes and interventions on the seafront and riverside to be carried out in the historic site and in protected monuments.
The same may request the CMRGS to embargo works/constructions that are not complying with the recommendations contained in the technical opinion, as well as the embargo of clandestine works/constructions in the Historic Center of Cidade Velha.
The document was initialed between the President of the IPC, Hamilton Jair Fernandes and the President of CMRGS, Nelson Moreira.
