Africa-Press – Cape verde. The city councils of São Miguel and Viana do Alentejo (Portugal) today reinforced their cooperation in the areas of environment and sanitation, civil protection and firefighters, rural tourism and professional training.

The information was provided by the Mayor of São Miguel, Herménio Fernandes, in statements to the press at the end of a meeting he held this morning with the Mayor of Viana do Alentejo (Portugal), Luís Duarte, who he is accompanied by his assistant and the president of the municipal assembly.

“We chose the areas of environment and sanitation, civil protection and firefighters and rural tourism, because we understand that these are three areas in which we need to improve our competitiveness, both from the point of view of services that are already good, but still need to be better” , he declared, informing that this strengthening of cooperation also includes professional training.

In terms of environment and sanitation, he reiterated the ambition of the municipality he directs to make the transition from solid waste collection, that is, to selectively collect them and create the conditions for recycling and the promotion of a circular economy.
