Africa-Press – Cape verde. The city of São Filipe, due to its orography and the paving process, especially with the laying of asphalt and the parallel sidewalk, has become a kind of “water capture mirror”, considered Nuías Silva.
The president of the chamber, who accompanied the delegation of the Order of Engineers of Cape Verde on the visit to critical points damaged by the force of rainwater, therefore argued that drainage is “fundamental”, as well as carrying out studies to know the influx and the amount of surface water that falls directly onto the floors. These, he added, behave as if they were mirrors for collecting water from the gutters that today are not collected from sources, but deposited directly on public roads.
“When the rain is very intense, the flow over the city increases in intensity”, pointed out the mayor, for whom it is essential to carry out studies and have a very well set up drainage system, in a kind of defense of the city, diverting the water to the Trindade (north) and São João (south) streams.
According to him, this is the work that is being done with the restoration of normality, but it must continue in the coming years so that upstream can work preventively and prepare the city for eventualities that may occur more frequently in the future.
The mayor said that in restoring normality on the Cruz dos Passos/Santa Filomena section, the drainage issue was decided and that Estradas de Cabo Verde (ECV) in the meeting it had with the council indicated that it has a drainage plan for this section. and they are surveying the sidewalk and importing the necessary materials to implement drainage in this section.
“This is the commitment and dialogue we had. The concern is with the historic center and we do not feel from Cape Verde’s Infrastructures the effective start to restore normality and we need to restore it because we cannot keep the city as potholed as it is”, defended Nuías Silva, indicating that citizens complain and that the parties have already seen everything they had to do with the technical visit and taking into account that the state of calamity clearly determined which municipal and Government component, through Cape Verde Infrastructures and Cape Verde Roads, the parties must work to restore normality.
