The Minister of Tourism and Transport, Carlos Santos, is representing Cape Verde at the XI Meeting of Ministers of Tourism of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), taking place in Luanda, Angola, under the motto “The contribution of tourism to the sustainable socio-economic recovery of the CPLP in the post covid-19 – Challenges and opportunities”. The occasion also serves to hand over the chairmanship of the meeting to his Angolan counterpart.

The event takes place within the framework of the CPLP Capital of Culture – Luanda 2022, at a time when the countries that make up the community intend to relaunch the economy and recover from the pandemic crisis that hit their economies, according to a note from the Government of Cabo Verde. .

Carlos Santos expressed confidence in “a great journey to promote and develop cooperation relations in the tourism sector within the community”, now under the leadership of Filipe Silvino de Pina Zau.

The two ministers, according to the same source, should hold a working meeting to review, at a bilateral level, the cooperation relations between both countries and analyze the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of tourism, signed between the two countries, in March 2019, valid for a period of five years.

The XI Meeting of CPLP Ministers of Tourism aims to share information and exchange experiences with a focus on the contribution of tourism to the sustainable socio-economic recovery of the CPLP, as well as the assessment of the degree of execution of the Action Plan of the Meeting of Ministers of Tourism and the identification of priorities for cooperation in the tourism sector in the biennium 2022-2024.

The meeting analyzes the political and diplomatic consultation on the potential cooperation activities of the CPLP to strengthen the tourism sector in the Member States and the resumption of the deliberations of the previous Meetings of Ministers of Tourism. This meeting follows the last one held in São Filipe, Fogo Island, in 2019.
