Africa-Press – Cape verde. The CPLP and the National Ethics Council for Life Sciences (CNECV) signed today, in Lisbon, a memorandum of understanding to promote the Lusophone Bioethics Platform, with a view to collaborating in areas such as science or health.

The agreement, signed by the executive secretary of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), Zacarias da Costa, and the president of the CNECV, Maria do Céu Patrão Neves, provides for future collaboration in the fields of scientific dissemination, education, health – namely improvement of “Global Health” -, science and technology, justice, public safety, culture and social communication.

“The signing of this agreement is the formalization of a partnership that has been studied since 2022 in the context of the creation of the Lusófona Bioethics Platform and the signing of the ‘Lisbon Declaration: Cooperation, Bioethics and Commitment to a single health in countries of Lusofonia’, which results from the Lusophone bioethics meeting that took place on September 14, 2022, in Lisbon”, declared Zacarias da Costa.

“We hope that, with the signing of this memorandum, we can move towards the development of activities that can allow the establishment of health research policies within the scope of the CPLP and training in the area of ​​bioethics and health sciences”, said the executive secretary of CPLP.

For the president of CNECV, this is an “ambitious, comprehensive memorandum and a step towards strengthening a partnership that has already begun in the past”.

The CPLP integrates Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Principe and Timor-Leste.
