Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cybersecurity company VisionWare is strengthening its presence in the Cape Verdean market. Also this April, it will open an office in the city of Praia and, by June, it intends to expand its presence in Mindelo, with the change of office, to a larger space, to respond to demand. For this purpose, it will hire around 20 local employees, thus aiming to reach a total of 30 technicians in the country.
Present in Cape Verde since 2007, also serving as a “great hub and gateway to the PALOP market”, VisonWare is now expanding its presence in the country, with the expansion in Mindelo and the creation of an office in the capital.
In an interview with A NAÇÃO online, Bruno Castro, CEO of the company, said that this reinforcement of the presence in the country provides for “the recruitment of 20 more people, making a total number close to 30 employees”.
In the short term, Bruno Castro guarantees that the focus will be on “the consolidation of this Mindelo office and its expansion, as well as the continuous training of our local employees”. To this end, he says, “it will be equally vital to count on the synergies and strategic partnerships that we have, for example, where I would like to highlight NOSi itself, which has supported us immensely in this process of growth, recruitment and solidification of our operation in Cape Verde”.
In this sense, he also talks about “approaching” universities in Cape Verde, “with a focus on high employability and opportunities for a future career in the world of technologies and cybersecurity”.
The company is even developing partnerships with national higher education institutions that have courses in the areas of computer engineering, networks and cybersecurity, precisely, “with a view to establishing various partnership protocols, on a regular and continuous basis, for a growing commitment and VisionWare’s future investment in the best Cape Verdean students/talent in IT”.
career opportunity
Currently, with clients in Central Administration, Public Administration, Pharmaceuticals, Banking & Insurance, Fuel & Gas, Authority, among others, this expansion is also the result of a journey spanning more than a decade.
“This investment, after more than 15 years of presence in Cape Verde, reflects VisionWare’s commitment to the sustained and continuous development of cybersecurity projects in Cape Verde and also our commitment and consistent investment in this country, now also mirrored in its human resources. – adding the factor of employability and career opportunities for young Cape Verdean talents in the world of technologies – combined with this current decision to expand our offices in Mindelo and Praia”, he explained.
According to this source, this year, and in a strong growth trend, VisionWare opened (without restrictions) its Security Operation Center (SOC) service to the international market.
“This service aims to implement an “intelligent guard”, with full coverage, in a permanent model (24 hours for 7 days) to the entire technological and application infrastructure of our customers. We have had the inclusion of many clients in our SOC, including organizations from Cape Verde”.
This says, it is an “immediate necessity” for anyone who wants to prevent violent cyberattacks” .
Therefore, one of the objectives of the recruitment processes in Praia and Mindelo will be the reinforcement of “our first line of VisionWare’s Security Operations Center with Cape Verdean resources”.
These two hubs, along with Porto and Lisbon, will, according to Bruno Castro, “support our ability to monitor, detect and respond to attacks by our customers across all geographies where VisionWare operates”.
Additionally, he says, after the recruitment process is completed, these two operation centers will also hold elements from VisionWare’s other internal units, such as compliance, cybersecurity and R&D development.
cyber attacks
The market demand is justified, especially if we take into account, increasingly, large-scale computer incidents with global impact, felt more recently through the effects of the War in Ukraine, and beyond.
“We are witnessing an exponential number of requests from companies, both public and private, with the effective intention of protecting and, above all, preventing themselves from any unwanted attacks, loss of activity and serious weaknesses that can be inflicted on their companies. infrastructure and IT systems. Cape Verde has followed this demand cycle, although on a smaller scale compared to most European countries”.
These attacks, to which Cape Verde, in his opinion, is not immune,
“Although there are several Cape Verdean organizations that have been preparing for the subject, a significant percentage of entities – public and private – still persist, which have not yet addressed the challenges and demands of security with the importance it deserves. . This fact, occurring in the scale of the cyberattacks that are currently happening in Portugal, and in a direct analogy, could be relevant even for national stability”.
In this context, he says he believes that it is “important to understand that the Internet does not have the concept of geographies” and that, taking into account that “Cape Verde does not fit into a country in the context of war, I would say that the same type of cybersecurity threats persist that exist in a stable and democratic nation”.
In view of this scenario described above, in the case of Cape Verde, the CEO of VisonWare highlights that, “probably”, the “state network for its dynamics and constant innovation, and the financial sector, for obvious interest, may be more exposed to cyberattacks by the criminal community.”
Hence, he concludes, the “demand to bet on security”.
