Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verdean Music Society (SCM) inaugurated, this Thursday, its delegation in São Vicente, which will also serve the islands of Santo Antão and São Nicolau. The new delegation responds to the “legitimate desires and requests of members, authors, composers, music artists, partners, event promoters and all those who live music”.
The opening ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Culture, Abraão Vicente, for whom this step will consolidate Mindelo as the center of culture and creative industries in the country.
According to the minister, “it is very important” to have an SCM headquarters in São Vicente, “where authors can meet, defend their rights and feel that the defense of copyright actually exists”.
In turn, the mayor of São Vicente, Augusto Neves, underlined the symbolism of opening the space in August, a month in which “its first two weeks” represent “high moments of music in São Vicente”.
Realization of a dream
For the president of SCM, Solange Cesarovna, the society’s delegation in São Vicente is the realization of a dream that has been nurtured for a long time.
But, also, he added, it is the fulfillment of a vision of the general assembly and of the direction of the SCM to respond to the desires and legitimate requests of the members authors, composers, music artists, partners using music, promoters of events and of all those who live the music.
“Opening the SCM delegation at the School of Music has everything to do with protecting authors’ rights, it has everything to do with valuing the profession of composer and musician. Without a school, we will not be able to have more and better artistic production, because it is in this school that we find our references”, he said.
