Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, said today that the competent authorities must carry out a rigorous investigation into the circumstances of the evacuation and death of the teenager Djonny, aged 14, which took place on August 1st.
The PR made this appeal after, as he said, having spoken on the phone with the nurse and father of the victim, João da Cruz, to hear his version of the facts and learn of the indignation of the Bravians.
In a post on his personal Facebook page, José Maria Neves said he considered it important that the competent authorities order a “rigorous inquiry into the circumstances of the evacuation and death of the teenager”.
urgent measures
According to him, on the other hand, “urgent measures” should be taken to create a “true system of medical evacuation in the country”, in order to prevent situations like this, wear out the health system and dissatisfaction with the level of care and of services provided in hospitals and health centers.
“You should audit care throughout the national health system. There have been many complaints, fair or unfair, from people who consider themselves poorly attended and/or poorly treated in health services”, he urged, also stressing that an effort has been made by health personnel, but that “times “are others”.
“I am aware of how much effort has been made by healthcare personnel at all levels and I honor them for that. However, times are different and people are much more demanding. They crave much more and better,” she defended.
Technical and human conditions
José Maria Neves considers that there are already technical and human conditions in the country to provide better quality final services to users, but points out that it is essential that there is more sophistication in the organization of work, more efficiency in execution and more effectiveness in the results.
“Everything must be done so that people do not lose confidence in the country’s institutions,” he concluded.
Adolescent João Carlos Martins da Cruz, Djonny, 14, died after being evacuated, in very precarious conditions, from Brava Island to the Francisco de Assis Regional Hospital, in Fogo.
