Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cardinal Dom Arlindo Furtado said this Friday that it was a “very welcoming and familiar” atmosphere during the conclave that elected the new Pope Leo XIV.

In a message shared from Rome, through the Facebook page of the Diocese of Santiago de Cabo Verde, the cardinal highlighted the importance of the moment, stating that the election represents not only a profound motivation to follow Jesus Christ, but also an opportunity for Cabo Verde to actively participate in the life of the Church.

“Thank God, for Cape Verde and for me too,” he said.

Dom Arlindo also expressed gratitude to Pope Francis, whom he recognizes for his efforts to bring the peripheries to the center of the Church.

“We are all brothers and we are one Church,” he said, highlighting the global impact of the new Pontiff’s responsibilities, from family life to nations and the international community.

The cardinal appealed to the co-responsibility of all the faithful.

“Each of us, as Christians, as followers of Jesus Christ, must do our part, so that the joint work of the Church that we are is welcomed for the glory of God and for the joy of all,” he concluded.
