The deputy of the Nation of the MpD, for the Santo Antão district, Damião Medina today appealed to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to do “everything in its power” to implement water supply projects for cattle, in the lower part of Porto Novo. , calling attention that it is not easy to practice livestock under current conditions.
The parliamentarian visited the cattle ranchers yesterday and appealed to this ministry to “do everything in its power so that, at the first opportunity, the projects come into operation”.
It is recalled that the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is preparing to launch two projects, around 8 million escudos, in the lower area of Porto Novo, for the connection of water to corrals, benefiting 40 breeders in Ribeira de Tortolho, and construction from a reservoir in Ribeira Brava, to supply 30 shepherds.
“Our appeal goes out to do everything in our power so that, at the first opportunity, these two projects come into operation for the joy and relief of livestock farmers”, the parliamentarian said.
According to this deputy, who warned of the “particularly difficult time” that this class is going through, in which the only vehicle of this ministry is broken, and, as he said, the creators await “with great anxiety the completion of these two projects”, which allow provide water in the places where livestock activities are carried out.

Damião Medina, who admitted that “it is not easy to practice livestock activities under these current conditions”, marked by drought and other crises, said he had the guarantee from those responsible for the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment that “efforts are being made so that the as soon as possible” the investments are implemented.
The deputy also urged the Porto Novo City Council to support the creators of water transport, taking into account the “very high prices” charged by private individuals, which exceed the capacity of the class.
Investments announced two years ago that are urgent
The representative of the breeders, Romeu Rodrigues, recalled that the investments announced “more than two years ago” by the Government, which could alleviate the difficulties of this class, even taking into account that the only auto tank vehicle of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is broken.
However, the delegate of this ministry in Porto Novo, Joel Barros, counters by advancing that “everything is ready” for the launch of projects that, if it were not for the restrictions created by covid-19, would already be implemented.
This source said that these are projects that will improve the water supply to about 70 livestock farmers who are concentrated in the lower part of the municipality of Porto Novo, where there is “a significant livestock herd”.
