Emicela Team Cabo Verde athletes shine in competitions held in Portugal

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cape Verdean athletes Wilson Cabral, Gilson Tavares and Gil Mendes from Emicela Team Cape Verde shone in the athletics events held last weekend in Portugal. Wilson Cabral won the Serra D’Arga Grande Trail in the 27 km, while Gil Mendes and Gilson Tavares won second place in the Short Trail, 45 km, and 17 km, respectively.

Wilson Cabral, athlete from Santa Catarina, won the Grande Trail da Serra D’Arga (Alto Minho Region – North of Portugal) in the 27 km with a time of 02 hours, 18 minutes and 54 seconds, having relegated the Portuguese Daniel Santos, from EDV Viana Trail, and Emanuel Machado, individual, for second and third places, respectively.In turn, Gil Mendes, was runner-up in the Short Trail in the 45 km, completing the course in four hours, 27 minutes and 56 seconds, (official time), having been surpassed only by the Portuguese Pedro Barros (04:21: 46).

In the 17 Km Short Trail race, Gilson Tavares, an athlete from Tarrafal de Santiago, was runner-up when he crossed the finish line with a time of 01 hour, 23 minutes and 13 seconds, that is, five minutes and four seconds more than the Portuguese Nelson Loureiro.

In female, Edena Lima finished the 27 km race in sixth position, completing the course in 03 hours, 12 minutes and 52 seconds.

Great Trail of Serra D’Arga
Emicela Team Cabo Verde has already participated in the Grande Trail of Serra D’Arga since 2014, having achieved great results.

This event is organized by Carlos Sá Nature Events and also counts with the collaboration of the Municipalities of Caminha, Viana do Castelo and Vila Nova de Cerveira, Parish Councils of Dem, São Lourenço da Montaria, Covas, Estorãos, Arga S. João, Arga de Cima, Arga de Baixo, Amonde, Gondar, Orbacém, Vila Praia de Âncora and Afife.

The Grande Trail da Serra D’Arga is part of the Portuguese Trail Running Association calendar.
