Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verdean Public Electricity Production Company (EPEC) filed a complaint with the Judicial Police (PJ) today following a series of abnormal occurrences recorded at the Palmarejo Power Plant on Santiago Island since early September.
According to a statement released by the company, the purpose of the complaint is to allow the competent authorities to assess and investigate all existing evidence in order to clarify the origin and nature of the incidents, as well as determine potential responsibilities if irregular or criminal situations are confirmed.
EPEC states that the decision to notify the PJ was made “in the spirit of complete transparency, worker protection, institutional responsibility, and protection of the public interest.”
The company also reaffirms its confidence in the Southern Production Directorate, which, according to the company’s statement, has acted “professionally and committedly” in resolving the reported issues.
EPEC also emphasizes that the ongoing investigations “should not be a cause for speculation or alarm,” and are being conducted with the sole purpose of clarifying the facts and reinforcing confidence in the company’s operations.
