Africa-Press – Cape verde. FIFA has rescheduled the Cape Verde vs. Mauritius match, for the 10th and final round of Group D qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, for Monday, October 13th, at the National Stadium in São Filipe, Inforpress reported on Wednesday, October 24th.

Initially scheduled for Sunday, October 12th, the match had to be rescheduled by FIFA, citing “this calendar adjustment” due to elections being held in Cameroon on the 12th. Therefore, it emphasized the need to align the times of all three Group D matches, leaving the Cameroon vs. Angola match, also scheduled for the 13th, as the first.

Cape Verde, the same source noted, will first travel to Libya to face the hosts on October 8th. A victory for the “Blue Sharks,” or a draw if Cameroon draws or loses against Angola, will secure Cape Verde’s unprecedented World Cup qualification.

With two rounds remaining in the group stage, Cape Verde leads Group D with 19 points, followed by Cameroon with 15, Libya with 14, Angola with 10, Mauritius with 8, and Eswatini with 2 points.

According to FIFA regulations, the winners of each of the nine African groups will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while the four best runners-up will compete in a FIFA World Cup qualifying tournament.

The 2026 World Cup will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
