Africa-Press – Cape verde. Reinforcing cooperation in the area of fisheries between Cape Verde and the European Union must involve creating conditions that allow businessmen to strengthen trade relations, with the Government having “complete openness” to facilitate this dialogue.
The Minister of the Sea, Abraão Vicente, gave the guarantee this Thursday, in Mindelo, at the official opening of the meeting of the Joint Commission for the partnership agreement in the field of fisheries between the European Union (EU) and Cape Verde. A reinforcement that should be based, according to the same source, on the structuring of a negotiating understanding platform, which is beneficial for both parties.
Incidentally, according to the minister, the European Union is an “important partner” for Cape Verde and that has shown this friendship towards the population of the archipelago, for which reason, he considered, the fishing agreement and the respective protocol mark “a new stage” in the country’s relations with the EU.
In this sense, Abraão Vicente asked that the Joint Commission, which will meet today and Friday, 10, in Mindelo, analyze “in depth” the issue of landings by European Union vessels operating under the fisheries agreement, not only with a view to complying with the provisions of the agreement, but also to supply the local manufacturing industry.
