Africa-Press – Cape verde. The damage caused by Storm Erin to the agricultural sector in the municipality of Porto Novo, Santo Antão, is estimated at R$18,000, according to an assessment by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA).

The MAA delegate in the municipality of Porto Novo confirmed that the floods of August 11th caused damage throughout the valleys, where, in addition to water pipes, nearly two dozen intakes were destroyed, requiring an investment of R$18,000 to restore normalcy.

This figure does not include the most recent damage observed in Tarrafal de Monte Trigo, following last week’s rains, which will be assessed on Tuesday, with a MAA team arriving on site.

Regarding the damage caused by Storm Erin in August, the MAA is already preparing the conditions to restore normalcy in the various valleys and is in the process of contracting companies that will rebuild the destroyed infrastructure, Joel Barros announced.

Farmers from different valleys have complained about the damage caused by the floods and are calling for swift repairs to destroyed pipelines and irrigation channels.
