Africa-Press – Cape verde. Fogo Island is preparing to host Provinho 2025, a large-scale professional event dedicated to wine, beverages, agricultural products, and wine tourism, which will take place from November 28th to 30th.
Considered the largest event of its kind ever held in the archipelago, Provinho 2025 is seen as a “historic step” for the island, aiming at its consolidation on the international route of agricultural innovation and specialized tourism.
Filipe Santos, Member of Parliament for the Fogo constituency and spokesperson for the MpD Regional Council, emphasized the importance of the event, which will be attended by international winemakers, chefs, investors, distributors, as well as representatives from institutions such as the European Union, UNDP, and the World Bank.
The parliamentarian stressed that the event is the result of a “Government that believes in Fogo” and that has promoted a series of initiatives for the sustainable development of the island.
Filipe Santos recalled that after the last eruption, it was the Government that relaunched production in Chã das Caldeiras and supported the reconstruction of the winery, organized the producers, and supported the creation of the “Wines of Fogo” brand. These initiatives marked the beginning of the sector’s professionalization, which gained new momentum with the Designation of Origin and Geographical Indication process conducted by IGQPI and WIPO.
Among other highlighted initiatives are the launch of the certification and branding project, which promises to increase the value paid to the producer, and the creation of the country’s first Enology and Viticulture Center, responsible for training young people and modernizing production.
In parallel, he emphasized, the Government is preparing the Fogo Special Economic Zone, seen as a key element to attract investment, boost agribusiness, and promote wine tourism.
According to the deputy, the results are already beginning to emerge, such as international medals, greater visibility for local wine, and growing pride among the population.
The Government, Filipe Santos emphasizes, is not limited to the wine sector, but is also undertaking actions to promote coffee, Fogo cheese, fruit, vegetables, and handicrafts, integrating these products into tourist routes and expanding opportunities for small farmers and young entrepreneurs.
According to the deputy, Provinho 2025 emerges as a “strategic showcase” for the authenticity and potential of the island’s products, marking the beginning of a new cycle of development.
“Fogo is moving forward, with confidence and results, because it has a Government that delivers and believes in this island,” concluded Filipe Santos.
