Fogo: MpD considers mayor Nuías Silva’s statements to be “false” and “devoid” of any factual basis

Africa-Press – Cape verde. This Monday, the Movement for Democracy (MpD) considered the statements by Nuías Silva, according to which the municipality of São Filipe did not receive support from the Government in the construction of the municipal swimming pool, to be “false” and “devoid” of any factual basis. .

“It is crucial to highlight that the MpD government, in its policy of working in partnership with the country’s municipal councils, not only fulfilled its obligations towards São Filipe, but also provided significant benefits to the Municipal Council”, said the national deputy of the MpD Filipe Santos, in a press conference, called to take a position on the statements made by the Mayor of São Filipe at the inauguration of the municipal swimming pool.

Faced with these accusations, Filipe Santos highlighted that the Government led by Ulisses Correia e Silva and supported by the MpD “is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the biggest partners” in the development of the municipality of São Filipe and the island of Fogo.

He recalled that in the last three years, the municipality received a significant amount, estimated at more than 1 million contos, from various government funds and several signatures of program contracts, highlighting that these resources were essential to boost the development of São Filipe.

He also mentioned that the Government supported by the MPD, in the construction of the swimming pool, awarded the São Filipe City Council with more than 11 thousand contos in exemptions from customs duties, exemptions from VAT payments and exemption from Special Consumption Tax.

According to the MpD deputy, the construction of the municipal swimming pool raised significant concerns due to the fact that “in a time of crisis, the São Filipe municipal council was going to invest 55 thousand contos in a swimming pool”.

“This amount should have been allocated more prudently. There are more pressing issues, such as the rehabilitation of houses, the requalification of neighborhoods, the creation of jobs and support for income-generating activities for families”, he pointed out, regretting the statement by the Mayor who, according to him, seems to be more interested to discredit the Government.

The parliamentarian regretted the City Council’s setbacks in relation to campaign commitments, which pointed to the construction of a Football Stadium from scratch and the transformation of the 5 de Julio Stadium into a pavilion with a swimming pool, treatment center and recovery of athletes as goals.

“The failure to fulfill campaign commitments by the president of the São Filipe City Council cannot be attributed to the government, but rather to the alleged incompetence and slow execution on the part of the City Council”, he concluded.

At issue are the statements made by the mayor of São Filipe, who, in a statement to the press, on Sunday, at the inauguration of the municipal swimming pool, lamented the fact that his municipality did not receive any support from the Government in the large investments that the city is making. to be carried out.

At the time, the mayor stated that the construction of the pool had no support, as did the 5 de Julho stadium, which represents a municipal investment of more than 200 thousand contos and which will be opened next year.
