Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Police (PN) announced today the reinforcement of security measures for the Municipality and Flag Festivals of São Filipe, with emphasis on the “rigorous monitoring” of minors entering the festival grounds.

The regional commander, Luís Barros, said that current legislation prohibits the presence of minors under 18 years of age in festival and nightlife venues, even when accompanied by parents or guardians.

“No minor will be allowed to enter the festival grounds, regardless of whether they are accompanied by adults,” warned the regional commander, who added that the police institution will carry out inspections to ensure compliance with the law.

The PN also calls on all people, regardless of whether they are minors or not, to carry physical identification documents.

According to Luís Barros, the use of digital documents has raised concerns due to attempts at falsification using recent technologies, he explained.

“The law requires that everyone be properly identified, and this includes the presentation of a physical document,” he stressed.

As part of the security plan, authorities have already begun inspection operations at the port and airport of São Filipe, following indications of attempts to introduce illicit substances from abroad.

In recent months, according to Luís Barros, there have been arrests and seizures of narcotics coming from the United States and other places, and the National Police intends to continue combating drug trafficking during the festive period.

The plan also includes mobile patrols in neighborhoods, hotels, residences, and guesthouses, with special attention to areas considered most sensitive in terms of crime, with the aim of ensuring the safety of visitors and residents throughout the festivities.

The National Police also reinforces its appeal to the population to adopt preventive measures, namely avoiding leaving homes unattended.

“Security also begins with responsible behavior on the part of citizens,” said the regional commander, who reminded that it is fundamental to ensure one’s own safety.
