Africa-Press – Cape verde. Grupo Desportivo Palmeira won, last weekend, the third consecutive title of champion of the island of Sal when there are still three days to go before the end of the regional championship, thanks to the 10-point advantage over Florence, in second place.
In the match for the 11th round of the Sal championship, played yesterday, Sunday, Palmeira beat Juventude by 2-0. Thus, in the Regional league table, Palmeira leads with 31 points, Florence 21, Académica 17, Académico 16, Gaviões 10, Santa Maria 9, Verdun 9, Juventude 7.
“A lot of work, humility and respect for the opponent”
For Toca, coach of Palmeira, winning the title of champion of Sal corresponds to an objective set at the beginning of the season and achieved thanks to “a lot of work, humility and respect for the opponent”.
Speaking to Rádio de Cabo Verde (RCV), that coach also highlighted that, in addition to being champion of Sal, his team won 10 wins and a draw in 11 games, conceded only two goals, and still had the best attack and best scorer of the salense competition.
The Palmeira coach says that he will only think about the National Football Championship, scheduled for next April, after the dispute for the Taça do Sal is over, for which his team will play the semi-final game later this week.
In the current sporting season, Palmeira had also won the Super Cup of Salt, in honor of Sança Gomes.
First regional champion of the 2022-2023 season
With the championship on the island of Sal, Palmeira is the first regional football champion of the 2022-2023 season and, consequently, with its place already guaranteed in the national championship next April, where it will be inserted in group B together with representatives from São Nicolau, Santo Antão Sul and the island of Fogo.
It should be recalled that Grupo Desportivo Palmeira is national runner-up, having lost the final, played at Estádio Arsénio Ramos, on the island of Boa Vista, against Académica do Mindelo (1-0).
