GAO Launches 2Nd Assessment Mission in Cape Verde

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Budget Support Group (BSG) will carry out the second BSG assessment mission in 2024, in Praia, between 4 and 8 November, with the aim of strengthening transparency and accountability in Direct Budget Support for Cape Verde.

Carried out within the scope of the Memorandum of Understanding for Direct Budget Support for Cape Verde, according to a government statement, the mission will include the participation of the six partners that currently make up the group, namely Luxembourg, the European Union, Spain, Portugal, the African Development Bank and the World Bank, with the group’s correspondence in 2024 being assumed by the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Direct Budget Support plays a fundamental role in official development assistance, contributing to transparency and accountability. The mission will assess the country’s macroeconomic, fiscal, financial and debt situation, as well as progress in reform policies in strategic sectors for the country’s development, such as social protection, poverty reduction, energy, blue economy, health, employment and employability, security, defence, justice, internal administration, climate action, connectivity, public administration and e-governance.

The official opening of the mission will be co-chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Business Development, Olavo Correia, together with the AfDB representative in Cape Verde, Felisberto Mateus.

The mission’s assessment is scheduled for 8 November.
