Government considers “profitable” cooperation relationship between Cabo Verde and FAO

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, today considered the existing cooperation relationship between Cabo Verde and the FAO to be “profitable”, since the beginning of the country’s independence until today.

The minister was speaking to the press on the sidelines of a meeting between the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA) and the Organization of United Nations for Food and Agriculture (FAO) for the assessment and perspectives of projects within the framework of Cooperation Cabo Verde – MAA – FAO.

The meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the National Institute of Agricultural Research and Development (INIDA), in São Jorge, in the municipality of São Lourenço dos Órgãos (Santiago Island), was attended by the FAO representative in Cabo Verde, Ana Touza.

Among the projects analysed, emphasis should be given to reinforcing the adaptive capacity and resilience of the forestry sector in Cabo Verde, farmers’ school camp, assistance to families affected by drought, reinforcement of the phytosanitary campaign, distribution of seeds, as well as the follow-up project for prices of basic food products and, furthermore, the reinforcement of the ability to forecast risks of forest fires.
