Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Vitória do Paul club was crowned, over the weekend, three-time regional handball champion of Santo Antão, after defeating the Super Estrelas da Ribeira Grande by 27 to 23, in the second game of the play-off, and is preparing for the national championship.
The match took place at Pavilhão David Fortes, in the city of Ribeira Grande, and confirmed the superiority of Paul’s team, which reached half-time winning by 13 to 10.
In the second half, they maintained control of the game and closed the score with a four-goal advantage, thus guaranteeing their third consecutive title under the guidance of coach Eduino Nascimento.
In an interview with Inforpress, the coach considered the achievement “a unique feeling” and assured that the team will now focus on the next stage.
“We will work with our feet on the ground, respecting all our opponents, just as we did in the regional tournament. The team has potential and the focus is to continue evolving,” he said.
Super Estrelas coach Jairo Alves, in turn, highlighted the difference in experience between the two teams, recognizing the merit of the opponent and pointing out the youth of his team as “one of the decisive factors” in the result.
“Vitória has a more experienced group. Our team is young and is in a growth phase. We believe that in the next regional we will be better prepared”, he declared.
In the women’s sector, the start of the regional play-off remains without a set date, due to the participation of several players from the region in the team that is currently in Mauritania, competing in the Handball Challenge Trophy.
